"Max Payne" under the original setting is sometimes a very difficult game. Even in the simplest difficulty, the protagonist Max is very fragile, and can only withstand the enemy's 5 rounds of pistols, 3 rounds of rifles, or 1 round of close and lethal shotguns. Contrary to other first-person shooter games, most enemies are stronger than the protagonist. In later games, enemies can withstand twice to three times the damage Max can withstand.
